Trends come and go, but balayage is here to stay! Check out this gorgeous hair trend and find out why this may be your next go-to hair color.

Hello, friends! How’s everyone doing? Dandy, I hope! I’ll be completely honest, I feel like my brain is running on autopilot because my days have been so busy, I feel like I barely have time to think. Today, I was sitting and thinking, “What in the world am I going to write about for my blog post today?” Fortunately, writer’s block didn’t settle in and an idea came flying into my head.

Recently, I read an article on “Fall Trends for 2015.” As a blogger on home decor, fashion, food, and beauty, I try to keep up-to-date. I mean, it’s kinda sorta my job! Under the ‘hair’ section, in big bold letters was the word, “Balayage.” Some of you out there might be wondering, “What is a balayage?” Now before I get to talking about balayages, let me point out that there’s a difference between a balayage and an ombre. A lot of people confuse the two, but trust me, they’re different! Still confused? Let me explain.

First, check out this picture of a gorg ombre! It looks great and I love it a ton!

Now, let’s compare it to a balayage!

The difference is subtle, but basically ombre focuses the color on the ends of the hair where as balayage sweeps the color throughout the hair. Fun fact: balayage actually means “sweeping” in French.

Anyways, back to focusing on balayages, this gorgeous hairstyle has been blowing up in magazines and on the red carpet. It’s no wonder that it’s so popular! Back in my good ol’ long hair days (not that I don’t love my lob!), I rocked a balayage. I loved everything about that caramel balayage. However, once I cut my hair short (literally almost a foot of hair was cut), all the balayaged ends were gone. My hair was back to its original black, virgin state. After a few months, I caved and went to my hairstylist (shoutout to the ever fabulous Jarrah) and she did a subtle caramel and blonde balayage on my lob and I loved it. In fact, I need to go back for a touch-up.

The point I’m trying to make from this little story is that balayages look great on both long and short hair! Need proof? Check out the images below!

Seeing this long hair balayage makes me super envious! Long hair is always gorgeous in my opinion (when it‘s healthy of course!). What’s most appealing about balayage hair color is that it gives you that stunning, sun-kissed look. For that reason, this hair color is perfect for the summer!

Now check out this short, sweet, and sassy “balayage blonde” right here! Sometimes the best things come in small packages or, in this case, shorter lengths. Personally, I love how versatile balayages are. They look good on just about any hair color—red, black, brunette, and blonde! Plus they are totally low maintenance. You can hold off on touch-ups as long as you so desire! How fun, right?
