In complete contrast to Pantone, Benjamin Moore went with a rich, deep purple tone called Shadow this year. Let’s see how to use the Benjamin Moore Color of the Year 2017!
Hello everyone! I’m sure by now you have all seen the 2017 color of the year for every company. But, I couldn’t resist showing off the color Benjamin Moore picked for the year! The lovely shade you are looking at is called Shadow. It’s an alluring, deep, mysterious shade of purple so dark and muted that it’s almost gray. And I absolutely love it. This is the color I dream about, okay? I have always loved purple (it’s my second favorite color!) and my bedroom as a kid was a shocking shade of lavender. But this, guys. This shade is perfection and amazement in a can of paint. I’m drooling over here at the possibility of using it myself when I get a house (hopefully over the summer!!). Since I’m over here making goo-goo eyes at a Ben Moore paint color, let’s go over some of the ways you can use this dark yet gorgeous color in your home.

The Benjamin Moore color of the year 2017, Shadow, is said to be mysterious, romantic, and alluring. Well, hello, this photo definitely shows you that! I am envious of whoever staged this shot because they are a genius. Seriously. I love the blown out candle look. It definitely shows off the romantic, mysterious, and wonderful vibe this color gives off. Shadow is deep enough to make a gorgeous dark room, yet still has enough brightness and light to not make the room drab. Talk about the perfect dark shade for any room! I’ve talked before about rooms where purple walls are great (like in the bedroom and bathroom), but this is one of those Benjamin Moore paint colors that is good everywhere. It’s got this epic vibe of calm, but with enough mystery behind it to not make you too sleepy if you aren’t already tucked in bed. Don’t believe me? Let’s look at some cool walls.

Check out this awesome space! I don’t know if I could tell you what my favorite part of this living room is. You have the gorgeous Shadow painted on the walls surrounded by white bay windows and exposed beams, with a killer black and chrome fireplace, lots of modern white furniture, and finally, the brown zebra chaise. So pretty. But notice that the color in this room comes completely from the Shadow walls. I absolutely love it. Plus, I do enjoy the large amounts of white in this space, which totally brightens it up and keeps the walls and dark fireplace from bringing the room down too much. It’s the perfect combination of light and dark, with more emphasis on the light, and it really makes the rich purple colors of the wall pop!

This was one of the first pictures I saw of Benjamin Moore’s color and I fell in love. I love the angle of this shot through the black balcony doors, which I also completely adore. I would so have those doors in my future home if I could. The doors and the angle of the photo really play on the mysterious nature of this particular shade of purple, and I love it so much. I also really like the addition of the magenta chairs and the red rug on top of the wooden flooring. Kind of unexpected, yet so awesome. Also, that light fixture is just amazing. It makes the room that much cooler, don’t you agree? It just makes me think of some old-fashioned yet mysterious modern home that would belong to like a time traveler or something. I love it, and I would definitely pull inspiration from this room if I was to use this Benjamin Moore wall paint.
I did say this would make a lovely color when put in the bedroom, and these Shadow walls are amazing. I love how the dark walls are paired with light creams and whites. Definitely lightens up the space and gives it a more romantic look. Like with the first living room, whites, creams, and other light colors like this are perfect combinations to use with Shadow. You can totally use last year’s color, Simply White, as a complement!
As for me, I would really hone in on the dark, mysterious nature of Shadow and add in deeper Benjamin Moore colors like blacks, silvers, and grays. I’m not fond of the color white, but I do love the look of this space. It really shows off the richness of the purple and gives it a whimsical, romantic vibe. Still awesome, even though it’s not my personal cup of tea. Can’t you just picture a room like this in your home, either exactly like this or with grays and silvers instead of creams and whites? I told you; I’m in love with this Benjamin Moore paint color.
If you aren’t into painting your walls, this color makes a great accent piece! These Shadow chairs are awesome. First off, I love the design of the chair. Seriously what creative genius makes all these great items all the time? So pretty, and the chairs really look awesome in this space. Secondly, I really love how they kicked up the opulent factor of this color with the taupe, velvet, metallics, and that killer chandelier. All the colors and textures really pop against the Ivory White paint colored walls. Add in a grand piano, and you have yourself a very chic room that perfectly shows off this new shade. And, you didn’t even have to paint any walls. You just needed some cool Shadow colored furniture. There are so many other ways you can incorporate this color into your home. Maybe a cool rug or even the bedding in your bedroom! The interior paint ideas and even textile ideas for this 2017 color are as endless as they are alluring.
