This is my ultimate runway of beautiful things that have nothing to do with real, everyday life. But hey, a girl can dream - about gowns and dresses!
There are days when I want to cozy up in my sweats and there are days when I want to get all pretty like I’m going to prom. Despite the fact that I have no evening plans of walking the Red Carpet or getting married, sometimes it’s nice to feel glamorous and slightly out of touch with reality. Sometimes it’s necessary to dream a little dream where you make a crazy online purchase on a dress you may never wear. And sometimes it’s fun to spend the day with friends on the couch nursing a beer and popcorn while wearing wedding dresses you have no intention of keeping.
With that being said, I’m a firm believer that it is necessary to spoil yourself from time to time. And, on that note, let me show you my five favorite gowns and dresses that I would wear in my living room, if nowhere else.
1. The LBD (Long Black Dress) We Can All Use in Our Closets
Dresses like this are classic and that’s really all there is to it. This beauty is a longer, more dressed up version of that little black dress hanging in your closet. This is the evening dress that takes the cake! I don’t have a single place to wear this, but that doesn’t mean I won’t just wear it out on the town, or as previously stated, in the comfort of my own living room! It’s elegant and sleek in its simplicity, and beckons to me, even if it might require Spanx. The line of this dress is just so gorgeous. I need it ASAP!
2. The Beaded Dress that Takes Racerbacks Up a Notch
Who doesn’t love a little extra something that makes them sparkle? I know I do. Of course, embellishments have a time and a place. In this particular case, the time is now and the case should be FedExed to me immediately, if not sooner. First off, it’s a racerback, floor length gown. That back is just to die for. Gah. Second, beads! Modern and sexy are the highlighted points of this getup and that’s what makes it stand out. Shoot, I’d wear this evening dress for dinner, even if it’s pizza night. As I’ve heard it said before, why blend in when you can stand out?
3. The Kate Middleton Dress That Proves She's a Goddess
Via Daily Mail
If you say that you don’t like Kate Middleton and her wavy locks and clothes that rock, then I’m going to have to say that your pants are on fire because you must be lying to me. She looks great. All. The. Time. Formal apparel or jeans, it doesn’t even matter. Anyone who can have a baby and hours later wear heels was destined to be royalty. Anywhatever, this Greek goddess getup gets kudos from me. It’s timeless and forgiving, only belted at the waist. This one-shoulder-wonder looks comfortable and silky enough to be worn on laundry day…(Imagine washing clothes in this? If the dress fits…) It also completely reaffirms to me that she is indeed a goddess. Like Wonder Woman. I mean, just look at her! She may very well be Wonder Woman!
4. The Red Classic Ball Gown No One Can Deny Is Fabulous
There is something so classic about a full on ball gown. It takes me back to old movies where being “fancy” was more than throwing on a bodycon and some 5” heels. It was a time when getting dolled up had a BIG meaning. When I say big, what I mean is “big” as in the diameter of the bottom of your dress must be at least four feet. The bigger, the better, am I right? Taylor Swift has really spiced up her attire lately, but this will always be a favorite. Every girl needs a red dress. It’s the sister of the LBD. Fondly known as the LRD (little red dress) or, in this case, the BRD (big red dress). Whatever the name, I think it’s safe to say that this gown is beautiful and the low back is just a bonus.
5. The Flowy Long Lace Gown (That's Probably a Wedding Dress, But Still...)
Via Bridal Musings
Wedding dresses are a funny thing—sometimes they’re long, sometimes they’re short, they can be lacy, or silky, sometimes a combination of all of the above. I don’t love this particularly as a wedding gown for reasons that would constitute an entire new post (wedding dress designers beware the day I get engaged), but I still say this grand gesture of a gown is stunning. I don’t know what else to really say about it because there’s just something I love that I can’t quite put my finger on. It’s almost enchanting and fairytale-like. What do you think?
I’m not delusional, I know that there is no way to clean the house or do the dishes while sporting one of these gowns. But, I am allowed to dream about it! It’s like vacuuming with pearls and heels on...maybe this will one day become the new status quo. I can dream, or maybe I’ll start a new trend. Who knows? Now that I say that, I kind of like cleaning in sweats so I guess there is a time and place to get all dolled up, and taking out the trash in a pink prom dress sounds like a nightmare I had once. Regardless, evening formal attire is fun!
