Best Friend Day means you get to spend the day with your bestie! You’ll definitely need to check out these ideas for fun places to go with friends!

One of my best friends still lives back in our hometown. I don’t get to see her often, but when we’re both in the same city, we always make an effort to try to hang out. Recently, it’s been hard, and when we do have time to hang out, it’s usually just to grab coffee at one of our favorite local coffee shops and to exchange Christmas gifts (yes...sometimes even in June. That reminds me, I still have her present from this past Christmas!).

This year, I decided that I’m going to make more of an effort than normal, and I want to plan something other than go to the local high school’s theatre productions or grab a cup of joe. The problem is, I have no idea what to do. So, the inspiration for this post was born! What are some cool and inexpensive things my best friend and I can do? Well folks, today I’m going to share with you 5 of the ideas I came up with. And maybe next time my best friends and I are in the same city, we can try to do one of them. Only time will tell. Okay, without further ado, let’s go over some awesome things to do with your BFF!

Hike a Local Nature Trail

Fun Places to Go with Friends Nature Trail Trek Hike Prairie Creek Redwood Forest

In the summertime, being out in nature is one of those fun things to do. Take your bestie out to a local nature reserve or to some local trails and the two of you can walk and talk. It’s super inexpensive, and you get to hang out and revel in the beauty of nature. If you’re both already super nature inclined, maybe change it from a few hour trek to a day trek, or even an overnight camp out! If you don’t have any local nature trails, you could hit up other local attractions like a beach, lake, or park and just walk around together. Don’t forget to take lots of pictures! And, don’t get eaten by a bear or anything while out there. Have fun, but be careful and be safe. We want to have lots of best friend get-togethers in the future!

In honor of National Best Friend's Day, here are some fun ideas for what you and your BFF can do! Have fun!!

Hit Up the Local Roller Rink

Fun Places to Go with Friends Skate Rink Skates Skating Roller Skates Hanging Lights

I’m totally going to do this with my best friend next time. We have a local skate rink and people are so much fun to watch there because when you put people on a slick surface, and give them something like skates (or even ice skates) they are going to fall. And when they fall, it’s usually going to be epic. My friend is very clumsy, so this is going on my list of fun activities to do with her because it would be too much fun to see who would fall first! She may be clumsy naturally, but I’m not sure on my feet when there are wheels involved! More points to you if you can get your best friend out there and one of you snaps a photo of the other one busting it! Turn it into a game, and when you are both tired of falling, grab a drink and watch the other people skating attempting to not fall.

Find a Hidden Gem Restaurant

Everyone loves finding a new, good food place that others don’t know about! This is one of those fun things to do in your area that you can do any time of the week. Search around town and pick a spot neither of you have been to. If you’re having a hard time finding something, you can always play tourist and go up to people (preferably ones who don’t know you!) and ask where the locals eat. Sometimes you’re given some very interesting, hole-in-the-wall places to visit you may never have heard of before or would never have found without asking! Order food you normally wouldn’t try. If it’s not good, order something else or go to another place. Best case scenario: you find a new, awesome place to get some grub! Take selfies and of course take photos of your food to post on social media. Hey, if you’ve been playing tourist to find this place, what’s stopping you from taking pictures of your yummy food? Have fun with it!

Take a Road Trip

I know, I keep using the words play tourist. What I really mean by that is to do those fun things you think of when you think of a tourist. You know, the fun stuff to do that people don’t do anymore because it’s associated with being a tourist. Take too many pictures of irrelevant things, like a puddle or a building. Take lots of selfies with your best friend. They’ll appreciate the candid photos later. Make silly poses, take pictures of your food, ask the locals questions about the town, the food, where to eat and get coffee. Literally, all of that!

The worst that could happen is people look at you funny and roll their eyes because another tourist is doing silly things. So what? You’re out with your best friend, having a great time. Do all of this in a nearby small town, one that isn’t too far to drive. Go to the local tourist spots, like the town square, and all the historical landmarks. Maybe catch an open mic night at a local bar. Whatever sounds like a fun place to go. After y’all get back home, put all your photos together into an album, digital or print, and add in stories and receipts, ticket stubs, whatever you have. Basically, make a joint travel journal. You’ll both love having the memories to read in the future.

Go on a Picnic

Okay, who doesn’t love picnics? If you don’t, maybe you just haven’t been on a good one yet. Load up an ice chest or picnic basket full of you and your friend’s favorite foods, find a spot, and have lunch! Or dinner. Or a late afternoon snack. Or, all of the above! Find a good spot by looking at local parks and finding ones with nice, lush patches of grass or groves of trees you can sit under. If you would prefer a table, find one that has picnic tables or park benches. You could even be adventurous and combine this with the nature trek! Go explore nature, then have a bite to eat. Again, take lots of pictures and have fun. You could even get lucky and find an outdoor concert area and be able to have dinner and a show! Keep an eye out for things like that. The important things to remember, though, are the food and drinks! Make sure you prepare everything ahead of time and bring plenty of ice or cold packs for any perishables. And don’t forget plates, napkins, utensils, and of course a blanket or picnic tablecloth to lay everything on!

There you have it, folks! Some unique and fun stuff to do next time you are chillin’ with your BFF! Which idea was your favorite? Do you have any additional ideas? Comment and let me know below. Don’t forget to share this post with your family and friends! And as always, stay creative, my friends!
