When I’m writing my blog posts every week, I try to limit myself to one food blog per week. That being said, sometimes I just can’t help myself. Food is my forte. I have so much to say about food that it’s somewhat ridiculous. I also have a tendency to write about things in my life that are relevant at that point in time (which makes me an emotional blogger, let’s be real), and right now that happens to be grilled cheese sandwiches.
Yep, that’s right. Grilled cheese sandwiches!
I didn’t really eat them as a kid, but when I was in high school, I would stay up really late doing homework. I’d get so hungry, and one night I had the revolutionary idea to make a grilled cheese sandwich. Now the rest is history. My grilled cheese sandwich has come a long way since I was in high school, which is great because there are so many cool recipes for this iconic sandwich! My current recipe is my favorite and the best grilled cheese I’ve ever made.
Lately, my grilled cheese is made with sourdough bread, butter, salt, pepper, and two slices of American cheese. I like to eat it with Cheetos and a piece of fruit or a pickle. That’s probably one of my all-time favorite lunches. It’s the perfect grilled cheese to me! At this point, I’m eating at least one grilled cheese a day. I’ll eat them every day until I’m sick of them, and then I won’t eat them for months; but have no fear, grilled cheese sandwiches will always be a staple in my life.
You may read some of my sandwich recipes and think these aren’t grilled cheeses, but let me assure you - they are. According to Wikipedia, a grilled cheese sandwich is a “sandwich that can be grilled so the [sliced] bread toasts and the cheese melts.” As long as the bread is toasting and the cheese is melting, we are making grilled cheese sandwiches! Check out some of these grilled cheese ideas with me, and let’s get cooking!
I want to begin with a grilled cheese sandwich recipe that is similar to the one I’m currently making. This recipe is called Fancy Schmancy Grilled Cheese. This grilled cheese is super cheesy, crispy, and buttery - basically everything you could ever want in your sammich. The bread used in this recipe is sourdough (aka my fave), and this recipe calls for three different types of cheeses and other spices that you would never imagine putting on your grilled cheese. But that’s the point of this blog post - to kick our grilled cheese sandwich recipes up a notch. Now, let’s kick it up another notch!
This grilled cheese recipe is super cool. It’s called Fried Egg Grilled Cheese Sandwich. I would’ve never thought to put a fried egg on my grilled cheese, but doesn’t that sound so amazing?! This recipe calls for Texas Toast, which if you’ve never had the opportunity to try it - let me tell you - you’re missing out. Texas Toast is love. Texas Toast is life. This grilled cheese recipe only uses six ingredients: eggs, Texas Toast, butter, cheese (Colby Jack or pepper jack is suggested as the best cheese for this grilled cheese), and salt and pepper. How’s that for keeping it simple but still amping up your grilled cheese game?

I’ve got an even fancier recipe for y’all that just screams gourmet grilled cheese! Check out this Bacon Avocado Grilled Cheese Sandwich recipe. That’s right, we are adding meat to our grilled cheese (or not, if that’s not your thing). If you’re not about that bacon life, make it with just avocado. This is the type of sandwich that you make when you really want to indulge in the cheesy, savory goodness that is a grilled cheese. Yum!
I bet you’re probably thinking "How have I gotten through nearly an entire blog post about grilled cheese sandwiches and not mentioned tomato soup yet?" No worries, friends, I could never forget that. Grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup go together like peanut butter and jelly … milk and cookies … Nutella and a spoon … you get the point. These Grilled Cheese Soup Dippers are the perfect accompaniment to your tomato soup! They are perfect because you can just dip them right into your soup. Plus, they’re just super cute. Try them!
From one grilled cheese lover to another, I think it’s safe to say that grilled cheese sandwiches make me melt 🙂
Which of these recipes do you think will make the best grilled cheese? If you like your grilled cheese sandwiches the old-fashioned way, no worries - I do, too. But if you’ve found a grilled cheese recipe or have some sandwich ideas that have you pumped for your next meal, comment and let me know! As an avid lover of grilled cheese sandwiches, I’m all about learning new ways to cook them! Be sure to share this yummy post with your friends.
