No matter what lipstick colors you decide to wear, brightening your lips will brighten your day!
I’ll be honest and tell y’all I don’t glam it up every day. You can usually find me in workout clothes with no intention of doing the workout part (that must change soon!). But I’ll also tell you that there is always, and I do mean always something on my lips. I might leave my house in my pjs and no makeup and I will still smear some color on my lips before I walk out. When asked “What is one beauty item you would take with you if you found yourself stranded on a deserted island?” My answer is lipstick. Every time! There’s something about it that makes everything better and brighter and prettier!
I have a few go-to colors that I carry around with me at all times. They usually hint at a rosy-pinkish color and a darker, bolder reddish-purple hue. In fact, every tube I own centers around these lipstick shades (and brand):
I’m not sure if it was the luxe gold packaging that enticed me to add these Yves Saint Laurent tubes to my lip popping collection or the easy application, but I can say with surety that I put my money where my mouth is (literally and figuratively). Now, this is my go-to brand and the only lipstick colors I habitually keep concealed in my purse. I kind of think it’s the best lipstick brand ever. The two shades that I always come back to are:
1. YSL Rouge Volupte Shine 17—Rose In Tension
When I think about the number 17, two things come to mind: my favorite number (the day I was born, obviously) and my favorite color lipstick. I try and wear this color when my outfit is a little bit brighter because this shade is less bold, but still pops. Lucky number 17 is also the look I sport in the daytime. It’s got just enough color for me to heighten my look of the day without bringing too much attention to my lips. So, like I said, perfect for daytime.
2. YSL Rouge Volupte Shine 19—Fuchsia In Rage
Number 19 is the lip color I put on when I want to add a little extra spunk to my OOTD. Best used when wearing subtle colors or single tones, I love wearing it out for a night on the town. It appears to be exactly what the name states “Fuchsia In Rage”, but, when applied, it is toned down a bit. I was nervous about it at first, but I was always told not to judge a book by its cover and because I like makeup more, I go with “never judge a lipstick by its color.”
I’ve realized that you cannot judge lipstick by the color in the tube, because the colors don't look the same on everyone. This insane looking purple is actually a lovely, berry color of lipstick on me. Who would have thought, right? So, think about that when picking out new lipstick for yourself! If you can test it out before you buy, at places like Sephora, I highly encourage that. You’ll be able to find the best shades, and make sure they look great on you too!
I’m the kind of girl who feels comfortable wearing white jeans after Labor Day so the shade of my lipstick in no way correlates with the season we’re in or what color scheme I’m supposed to follow at said time. I just wear whatever shade my heart desires and that works for me! I encourage you to give yourself the same freedom.
One last word of advice: moisturize those lips. I’m totally serious. Your lipstick application will look so much better if you do! For purposes of moisturizing, I have recently discovered a new favorite. It's a spin on that old classic, i.e. Vaseline.
As I roamed the aisles of my local HEB, I spotted this little pink speck at the bottom of one of the shelves. I’ll admit it, I bought it because it’s tiny and if you say you don’t like tiny things, then you’re probably joking. Despite my reasons for purchasing this little gem, the end results were fantastic! I use it pretty much all day long, both on bare lips as well as on top of my lipstick. (I always use something on top of my chosen color because I like a simple shine.)
Moisturized lips, though, are the key to flawless looking lips. So, if you’ve always wondered about why your red pout ended up looking cracked, splotchy, and not at all what you expected, you’ll need to invest in some kind of lip balm or moisturizer like this one. Trust me on this, because it’s really important to have healthy, moisturized lips when you’re rocking bold shades of lipstick! So, go get you some good ol’ lip moisturizer and get those lips poppin’!
