Planning a party but don’t know where to begin? Not to worry, we have each step planned out for you. We’re beginning with one of our fave parts: The Cake!
Well friends, in these next few weeks, birthday season begins for me. What does that mean? It means I’ll be attending a lot of loved ones’ birthday parties. Fun, right? Absolutely! However, as much fun as birthday season is, it also means there will be a lot of food cooking and party decor planning. Now, just to clarify, I actually really enjoy planning parties. I think it’s tons of fun. My big take away when it comes to planning parties is to remember the big picture of how you want your party to look and plan in steps so that you don’t get overwhelmed with minute, unimportant details.
I’m sure you’re all wondering (hopefully) where I start all my party ‘planning.’ Well, let me tell ya! To be completely honest, I don’t have a set pattern that I follow. Generally, I pick a theme and start planning the decor. Then everything else seems to follow. One minor detail that I feel people tend to neglect at parties or events is the cake. Yes, that’s right I said it: CAKE. So, to start off our Plan a Party series, we’re going to look at cake designs to help inspire the party decor!
Ponder this thought for a bit: when was the last time you went to a party and there was awesome looking and delicious tasting cake? Left a pretty good mark on your memory, right? I have a friend who’s a nutrition major and she actually always plans her parties around the cake she bakes and designs. So, that’s why we’re beginning our party planning series with cakes.
The first cake up to bat is this gorgeous vintage-looking, lacy cake. This cake is perfect for any small family get-together, a fun soiree for a little girl, or even a wedding. A friend of mine recently hosted a small birthday party for her 3 year old daughter. The theme was a woodland fairy princess party. This cake would have been absolutely perfect for that event—especially since the colors of the cake are pink and mint, which were the same exact colors of the party.
If you’re ever stuck and unsure of what theme you should give your party, pick a color scheme and style instead. If you like pink, go for a party with a lot of pink decor. Add pops of colors that you adore and make the party fit your personal style. Or, in the case where you are planning the party for a family member or friend, have the party match their style and favorite colors! That will help you plan the perfect party, without having to stress over the theme!

Have a friend who’s totally into graphic art or loves eclectic, geometric home decor? This creative cake is totally for them. If you were to design a party around this decorated cake, the party would be absolutely stunning. I can already see the party decor in my head! There would be stunning DIY geometric wall art everywhere and colorful balloons with photos of the birthday lady or gent attached to the end. The whole soiree would be absolutely spectacular and definitely a sight to see. See how a simple cake design can create an explosion of inspiration? That’s why I wanted to start with the cake!

OK, just imagine how cute this ice cream cake would look at a summer party? Anybody know someone with a summer birthday? This may be the cake for them. Any crafty elementary or middle school teachers out there? I remember when I was in elementary school, at the end of every school year, there would be an ice cream pool party to kick off the start of our summer vacation and end the school year on a good note. Now imagine one of those parties with this adorable cake? Teachers, please take note! This may be the perfect cake for you and your students! Plus, it’s super easy to make!

I love this cake idea a lot! I like how unique and fun the style is. I could totally see this being the cake at a birthday party for a girl who loves fashion or even at a sorority event! I think the fringe detailing on this cake is what really adds an unique touch. But, the biggest attention-getting detail on this cake definitely has to be the colorful arrows. The arrows take the cake (pun intended). Anyway, this type of theme is so in right now, especially with college-aged kids (Adults? Sometimes we are both). You can never go wrong with a stylish cake like this!

I adore watercolor on everything. I don’t know why but I think this trend is absolutely stunning! What’s fun about watercolor cakes is that you can change up the colors depending on whatever your color palette is for the party. Imagine this cake with various shades of blues, purples, and grays. That would be pretty awesome! Speaking of that color palette, this cake could easily become a galaxy themed cake! Oh, think of the possibilities for space themed parties! They’ll be fantastic and wonderful.
Here’s our last contender for the most stunning cake. I couldn’t help but showcase this darling cake. It’s absolutely gorgeous! I love the gold mixed with the warm fall colors. This cake goes out to my friends who are getting married next September and November. Hooray for fall weddings, love, and CAKE! Wouldn’t this just make the perfect fall wedding cake?
