Before I begin, I just want to give a quick shout-out to my mom for giving me this idea! So, Talavera tile - what is it? You may recognize Talavera tile by its colloquial name - Mexican tile. Talavera pottery is a type of artwork that originated from Puebla, Mexico in the 16th century. In its beginnings, the Mexican pottery was traditionally painted with only two colors: blue and white. For the sake of this blog post, I will just talk about the Mexican Talavera tile. Today, many Talavera tiles include bright and bold colors alongside the original blue and white designs. Usually, the Mexican tile designs vary; many of these tiles have designs that portray aspects of nature, such as the sun, moon, and flowers. Talavera tiles are gorgeous, and they can easily provide the pop of color that you want in your home!

As I mentioned, my mom gave me the idea to write about Talavera tiles. She’s a huge fan of the artwork style and has used it to decorate many rooms in our house. Just like my mom, you can incorporate Talavera tiles into your home in so many ways. In fact, the options are endless! You can use it in your kitchen, bathroom, as an accent piece, etc. Here are some of the many ways that you can use Talavera tile to decorate your casita.

Talavera tiles are very commonly used in the kitchen as backsplashes. Because there are so many different designs, the possibilities are limitless on how you can decorate your kitchen using the tiles. You can use them to create a simple, small Talavera tile backsplash like the one in the image above or you can use them to make a huge backsplash that is from wall to wall between your counters and cabinets. Also, note the picture on the right! Because Talavera tiles are usually made to be extremely durable, they can be used to make a beautiful countertop. From a pop of color with a backsplash to a durable and beautiful kitchen island, there are so many ways to use Talavera tile in your kitchen!
